Conor McGregor snubs Khabib as he names toughest opponent ever faced in his career

Conor McGregor took part in a Twitter Q&A as he revealed the toughest opponent of his career and gave his prediction for the UFC lightweight championship clash this month.

The Irishman fielded questions from social media ahead of his expected UFC return.

Taking part in the Q&A, he named long-time rival Nate Diaz as his toughest opponent, ruthlessly snubbing former foe Khabib Nurmagomedov in the process.

Asked by a fan to name his toughest-ever opponent he faced during his career to date, he replied: “Nate.”

Of course, McGregor has a legendary two-fight series with Diaz, having gone toe-to-toe at UFC 196 and UFC 202 in 2016.

McGregor, who held the UFC lightweight title in 2016 before being stripped, will be a keen observer of the upcoming main-event bout at UFC 280 on October 22.

Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev will compete for the vacant UFC lightweight title at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.

And McGregor has backed Oliveira to ‘easily’ reclaim the championship.

“Olly and easily,” he predicted when asked for his winner.

McGregor hasn’t fought since suffering a leg break in his TKO defeat to Dustin Poirier last year but he claims it’s now a ‘distant memory’ as he thanked his team for their support during his rehabilitation from the injury.

Asked about his leg, he replied: “Distant memory. Masterful surgeons and team. Leg is now a lethal weapon.”

Despite not competing, the 34-year-old has provided regular updates on social media, revealing his enormous physique ahead of him returning to the sport.

And he’s suggested that his next fight will take place at welterweight level as opposed to lightweight.

Asked if welterweight is next, he said: “Definitely.”

The ‘Notorious’ is currently on a two-fight losing skid, having lost back-to-back fights to Poirier but he’s hoping to land a big fight upon his UFC return.
