Funeral in Wellington for Joanne Ingham
Joanne Ingham as a teenager. She died last week in Wellington.
A funeral was held on Friday for one of the infamous Ingham twins, who died in a Wellington motel last week.
Joanne Ingham died at Harbour City Motor Inn on June 7, in circumstances police say are unexplained.
The 43-year-old and her twin sister, Sarah, made international headlines in 1997 when they stowed away on a Malaysian ship leaving from Tauranga. They were 18 at the time, and originally from Kaiapoi, near Christchurch.
A death notice for Joanne Ingham said she was a “much loved mother, sister, aunty and daughter” who would be greatly missed.
“She rests now peacefully.”
The funeral was held at a church in Wellington, on Friday morning. Between 40 and 50 people arrived at the service, about 9am.
It ended shortly after 10am, with family and friends gathering outside the church.
The song Amazing Grace was played as mourners gathered around the back of a hearse, and Ingham’s casket was carried out.
